Thanksgiving memories and a couple of "2 minutes in the kitchen with me" and more

Good morning my sweet friends.      I hope and pray that where ever y'all are that you're enjoying this new day.       an artist canvas is what the day it.       what will you do with your canvas?        to start off with my new canvas, I made breakfast for us and then I wished my husband a very Happy Birthday.       I'm so thankful to God for the blessing that I call my husband.        He is my best friend, my confidant in life, the one who keeps me grounded and he helps me to be a better person each day.      I'm so thankful that God chose him for me.       so this is just the starting of my canvas.        I hope you enjoy painting your canvas today.

whatcha doin' today??      come with me to the kitchen with me for "2 minutes in the kitchen with me" and I'll show you what I done this morning.      recently, someone somewhere on facebook was talking about their new glass top stove being in a mess from spots and and stains and burned on bits.      when I was getting ready to clean my stove top this morning I thought it would be a good time to take pictures of before and after.       I try to remember to clean my stove top every Friday and then during the week as necessary to spot clean.       a few years ago, I let it get in pretty bad shape and didn't realize it.  so it took me little while to get it back in good shape and I've it kept it in good shape ever since, just with staying on top of it.

I even use my cast iron skillets on my stove top.       I just clean up after the stove top cools down.       as a matter of fact, it's my wedge cast iron skillet that makes the biggest mess.       it has a hole in the center and when I'm heating the skillet to make wedges, my grease will splatter in the hole and burn to a haard mess on my burner.     hahaha         I try to remember to clean my stove top every week with bar keepers friend.        it will keep your glass top stove looking like new for years.  mine is over 23 years old and still looks brand new.        so, I hope if you or someone you know has a glass stove top and can't get it clean, this is how to do it.

the 1st picture is the spots and grime that gets into the burner.  it doesn't even shine anymore.

the 2nd picture is where I have washed the stove top and sprinkled on my "bar keepers friend".

the 3rd picture is where the elbow grease comes in to play, not a lot, just a little.

the 4th picture is reaping the rewards of my effort.

this is how I keep my stove top clean and shiny and I've done this for over 23 years now.        I do it at least once a week and more if I get something on it that needs to come off.         sometimes there can be burned on little bitty blobs of grease spatters that a little more elbow power, I have successfully gotten it clean from any build up.      so, if your stove top looks cruddy like mine did, this is a pretty easy fix.

In the book of Ephesians the church of Jesus Christ is presented as seven things. The sixth thing they are is the bride of Christ. The seventh thing they are is the army of God. The last form of the church on earth is as an army, advancing and conquering. Some of us would rather be lovers than fighters. We’d rather be the bride than be in the army. But if we’re going to have God’s blessing between here and the rapture, we’d better put on the whole armor of God—because it’s going to be a knuckle busting fist fight between here and the gates of glory. Give Satan no ground. We are the blood-bought church of Jesus Christ, the army of the Living God, and the victory is ours in Jesus’ name.

I'm sharing another "2 minute cooking with me" episode.       Who loves yogurt?       Who loves greek yogurt?        Who has an Instant pot with a yogurt setting?       Well, if you have an IP with the yogurt setting, you have the main ingredient.         hahaha           I have a bread machine that also has yogurt setting, so I'm gonna check that out closer too.          Back to the IP.          I like all things easy, not gonna lie.          Don't want to heat anything to a certain degree or anything like that.          So, I'm gonna tell you how to make delicious yogurt with your IP called the "cold start method".            In order to do the cold start method, you MUST use "ULTRA PASTEURIZED" milk.          I bought the "Fair Life" brand in "no-fat".           Again, you MUST use ULTRA PASTEURIZED milk!!         Then get one of your favorite little tubs of plain, non flavor yogurt, (I got Chobani non fat, plain) with as many live cultures in it as possible.             Pour your ULTRA PASTEURIZED milk into the inner pot and whisk in 2 tablespoons of your purchased yogurt.       Whisk it really good.       Those 2 tablespoons inoculates the whole batch with cultures.           Put your lid on, and lock it in place, although it won't be hot enough to come to pressure and press the yogurt button to start.             8 hours later, carefully take the lid off (there will be lots of condensation on the inner lid and you don't want it to fall in your yogurt) and put a paper towel over the pot (to catch any more condensation that may form) and then put a plate over it, or another lid that will set on it and pop in the fridge for a couple hours till it cools off completely.          Once it's cooled off, you can just stir it up for regular yogurt and enjoy, or you can place it in a strainer lined with a flour sack towel and strain off the whey for a thicker greek yogurt.  The longer you strain it, the thicker it will get.         If you forget it and get it too thick, you can add some of your whey back in in and stir really well.            Either way, you have just made you a batch of yogurt.  Yay!!!   Got my first batch of many in the fridge, straining off the whey as I type.     I hope if you love yogurt, you will give this a try.

If you like a tangier yogurt, set the time for 10 hours, or even more for really tangy yogurt.      Mine went 8 1/5 hours and it's delicious!!!

Another option for the ULTRA PASTEURIZED milk is Kroger Carbmaster.             I personally have not checked this out yet, but will for my next batch.            There are probably several other brands, maybe store brands, of ULTRA PASTEURIZED milk on the market.          So use what you can find as long as it is ULTRA PASTEURIZED.          I may be the last person on the planet to make their own yogurt, and if I am forgive me and my excitement.              But if you haven't made any yet, give it a try.             It will be worth your time if you love yogurt, plus it's fun.           So, that's a win win as far I'm concerned.            Until the next episode, y'all be blessed and make some yogurt.

An artist contemplates a new canvas.       What will the artist bring to life on the canvas?       As with each individual, the possibilities are endless.       Will it be still life?       Will it be a portrait?      Will it be a landscape?         Will it be a collage, of sorts?        At this point, even the artist doesn't know.   Today is a new canvas.        What will you do with your new canvas today?        What are some of the choices that you will make today that will make your canvas a work of art, a master piece?        Isn't it kind of exciting just thinking about the very first stroke of paint going on that new canvas?       Well, to me, it's just as exciting to see the direction that my canvas of life will take today.        And the very first stroke on my canvas today will be asking God to send me where He needs me to be today.      Put words of life in my mouth.         Tender my heart to see as He sees.        To be His hands and feet today.      The foundation of any plan is what determines the outcome of the project.       So, for today, my foundation is prayer and the rest of the canvas belongs to God.         I can't wait to contemplate His master piece at the end of the day that He has let me be a part of.

this was a fb post from Thanksgiving Day 2018.      just though I would share it today.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!       I hope and pray that where ever y'all are that you have had a blessed day thus far and that the rest of it is filled with blessings also.

We just got back in from Ky and I must say that we had a wonderful time with family.       At one time I looked around to take in all the faces and you know how you can have flash backs of days gone by.      In that single moment, many many many of the Thanksgiving Days that I can remember flashed thru my memory.       It was one of those times when I would loved to have had those memories on a dvd to pop into a player and share them with everyone there.

You know, things change.      They just do.      We can't stop the changes from happening.      The best we can possibly do is ask God to help us thru those changes.

I seen us all in the house out in the country that all my brothers and I grew up in.      The place we called home for longer than I have been on planet earth.      Momma in the kitchen cooking and getting the meal ready for no less than 8 to inhale in one fell swoop!!      hahaha       I see all of us eating the best turkey and dressing that anyone was ever blessed to eat.        Momma still the makes the best turkey and dressing and today proved that point.

I seen the many times after the meal that my Dad and brothers would get out in the yard and after Mom and I got the kitchen cleaned up, maybe we would end up out there too.      Sometimes it might be rainy and cold and we would all be inside, but where ever we were, we were full and there was always some laughter taking place.

One time, when we got older, just before my brothers started getting married, they had their girlfriends, soon to be wives at our house for lunch and after lunch we all went to Split Rock.       It was just a field with this humongous rock in it that was split right down the middle.       The rock was 10-15 feet tall above ground, and the footprint of the rock was huge.        We went and would work our way through the rock.      It was a tight squeeze for all of us way back then and I couldn't help but grin today when that thought ran thru my mind, "we would just have to look at it today, because I don't think any of us could get thru the split!"       I wish I had pictures of that rock.         That was back before cell phones and all I have is memories.

2011 was the last Thanksgiving  and Christmas that we had as a family of 8.       Dad had gotten sick and was in Creekwood at Russellville.         One of the churches in the community had the dining room reserved for their services after church and that church offered to give their church service time to my family so we could have Thanksgiving together and we accepted that offer and spent the day up there with my Dad.         Then when Christmas rolled around, they gave us the dining hall again to celebrate Christmas.          That was one of the memories that popped into my mind also.       The kindness of other people allowed my family to have 2 special events with our Dad that we wouldn't have had otherwise.       That ended up being the last of the family celebrations that included all 8 of us, the original crew.

Today, we still have our beautiful Mom and she is still one of the best cooks in the country!!!     When she cooks, you can taste the love in it!!  I think it's fair to say that she's the glue that sticks us together.    I know of no other mother anywhere that is any more loved by her children than my Mom.      That is a strong testimony to her.

And, as I think about all that I have to be thankful for, family is at the top of the list.      I think about my 5 brothers.       Each one of them are good men.      Above average by the worlds standards.     They are hard working men with work ethics that can NOT be matched, by anyone.      They are and have been good providers for their families.        Thinking of the 6 of us siblings, we all are a lot grayer than we were a few years ago.         There's probably more weight on each of us than there should be.      We each have our own aches and pains that get worse with each passing year.        But, one thing stays the same.        I can shut my eyes and by all the laughter taking place, I can still put a young face with each different laugh that I hear.        When I open my eyes, I am right, only the face that I am looking at may be a little more lined from age and the hairline may be receding a bit; there may be glasses where they hadn't always been.         But there is always a familiar, smiling face.        The face of men that used to be boys.       They are now husbands, fathers and grandfathers.        And they are my brothers and I'm proud of them and thankful for each and every one of them!!

I am thankful to God for all the blessings that He has heaped upon my family!!!       I am thankful for all my nieces and nephews and their husbands and wives and all their children!!      When I look at them, I realize that our family is in good hands.       There was 4 generations there today.     I realize that a lot of families have more generations than that, but I am still thankful for the 4 generations there today.

I said earlier that family was at the top at my list that I am thankful for.      But, at the very top of my list, above family, is Christ!!!        Without what Christ has done for me thru His shed blood, nothing else matters anyway.       I am thankful that Christ loved me enough to die for me so that I could be in right relationship with God.         I pray that as I go forward in my own life, that I am forever thankful and grateful for Christ and that I can share that thankfulness and gratefulness with others.      Sometimes it just takes the blink of an eye to realize just how abundantly blessed one is and that is exactly what happened to me today in just the moment of a split second.       Blessed and highly favored comes to mind!!      Thank you God for the many blessings that You have bestowed upon my family!!!

I hope that each of y'all made memories today that will bring you joy in the days to come.  And maybe, just for the blink of the eye, there were no empty chairs around the table.

The Israelites are at the Jordan River. Joshua and Caleb are coming back from Canaan to report on the possibilities and the potential that God has for them in the promised land. They are carrying a cluster of luscious grapes so large they have to use a pole to bring it. The children of Israel said, “Where did you get those grapes?” Joshua grinned and said “Right next door to the biggest giant you’ve ever seen.” Can’t you hear them? “Giants? Did you say giants?’ You mean, after all we’ve been through—after the Red Sea experience, after the earthquake for worshiping the golden calf, after the snakes came out to bite us for murmuring, after the plague for criticizing God’s cooking, after circling around in the wilderness for 40 years—now you’re telling us that in order to get the grapes we have to whip the giants?” Joshua said, “That’s about it.”

******************

well, I guess that's about it for today.        I hope I shared some good information with you.        I hope you seen some of your own family blessings and memories thru my eyes today.        I hope and pray that you know Christ as your Savior.        just know that God wants to love us beyond measure, but we have to be in right relationship with Him in order for Him to love us unmeasurably.       be blessed today and be thankful.      hugs and love y'all, patty
