good afternoon lovely friends!!!! I pray that where ever y'all are that your day has been wonderful and that you give God the praise and glory for it. I've had a good day and a pretty good week, so I can't complain a whole lot. was just out on the deck working on my "deck-stead". I'm not a homesteader, I'm a decksteader. well, it make perfect sense to me, since I garden on my deck.
anyway, I put the pics for this post up on June 12th and I forgot about it. so here I am now trying to remember. hahaha at least it's pretty self explanatory.
this is the first bowl of green beans I picked and then I decided to go back and take pics as I cleaned out my 2 raised beds. these beans had went crazy and grew taller than I had expected them to grow and they spilled over the back of the deck area going down the ramp. there was a ton of beans that I couldn't get to. so, I took my garden shears and started cutting them off at the surface of the soil and picking the beans. in the pic below, the first bed is half empty and what's in the first pic came from that area.
in the pic below, all the beans are cut and picked and I got the bed cleaned up real good and ready to replant.
in the pic below is what came from the second half of the first bed. I just now noticed that the deck is wet. that's because it was drizzling while I was picking the beans. I was wet, but not from sweat. I'll take that any day over being hot and wiping sweat from my eyes.
this pic is of all the beans that came from that first bed. not to mention the other beans that I had already picked and we had eaten. there's nothing like homegrown food, and these beans are wonderful.
this next pic is of the some of the beans from the second bed of green beans. some of those were yellow wax green beans and talking about good, these are.
this pic has both pickings from the second bed, there was some green ones in there too.
the next pic is of both beds cleaned out and ready to be planted. that was a breath of fresh air just to seem cleaned up, but I don't mind telling you that I can't wait to see the next batch up and growing like gang busters. I may try for a third crop when the second crop gets done. I have can poles in the corners and along the edges of the beds with pool noodles on the ends of the cane poles. that's to prevent the cane poles from tearing the mesh that I use to cover the beds when I first plant them or also to put frost covers up with.
the last pic is of the mesh covers that I made to cover these beds with to keep squirrels and birds and cats out of my garden. I have 4 of these beds and I have covers for them that I've made and they work well. I've got more of the mesh that I need to make more of the covers for a couple more smaller raised beds and I need to make some for my strawberry towers. right now, I'm using 2 of the covers like what's in the pic on my strawberry towers and it works, but they need their own covers. just a few inches shorter than the ones on there right now.
I'm enjoying my garden this year and I hope if any y'all have a garden, that you're enjoying yours too. there's just something about trying to grow a few things for your family. I've learned to just grow what we like. last year I had several types of eggplant, we're not even crazy about it. so I'm not wasting prime real estate on stuff we're not crazy about. makes sense to me, don't it to you.
